Because of the participatory nature of foreign-language instruction,
class attendance is extremely important. After
two (2) unofficial absences, (i.e., absences totaling the number of times the
class meets per week), the instructor will withdraw you from the course.
Official absences are defined by the college as:
“Those which occur when students are involved in an official activity
of the college, i.e., field trips, tournaments, athletic events, and present an
official absence excuse form.” Other
official absences include jury duty and subpoenas; death of an immediate family
member; and religious holidays. Appropriate
documentation will be required and prior arrangements must be made with each
instructor for make-up work. See
page 50 in your GCC Student Handbook. If
you know that you will be absent, please notify the instructor so that he/she
can provide you with the necessary homework assignments or materials.
It is also a good idea to have the phone number of a fellow student so
that you can call him/her to find out what you missed.

instructor’s signature)
